Mammograms are considered the current standard method for breast imaging and are designed specifically to visualize breast tissue – they utilize relatively small doses of radiation. Because conventional body CT scans usually require higher levels of radiation exposure, a frequently asked question about our Koning Vera Breast CT concerns its radiation levels: Since this is a CT device, are the radiation levels of Koning Vera much higher than those of mammography?
The answer is no. Unlike conventional body CT scans, in which the x-ray usually has higher energy to penetrate multiple organs, Koning Vera is a dedicated breast CT device which only scans the breast with very low radiation. Rest assured, our device maintains radiation levels similar to conventional mammography and adheres to The Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) mammography radiation limits: Approximately the same amount of radiation a woman would get from her natural surroundings over about 10 weeks.
With 120 patents protecting our technology, the Koning Vera Breast CT stands at the forefront of breast imaging innovation. Our commitment lies in offering a safe and accurate solution for early cancer detection, prioritizing precision and the well-being of our patients above all else. The difference to mammograms is found in our device’s efficiency: Vera by Koning acquires high resolution, low dose images in a matter of seconds. It eliminates painful compression, risk of implant rupture, and uses true isotropic 3D technology completely eliminating overlapping structures. It also allows for the ability to perform 3D guided biopsies at 50% less dose than stereotactic biopsies, and allows for an efficient platform for contrast enhanced imaging as needed. With over 25 systems deployed worldwide and growing monthly, we continue to expand our reach and provide healthcare professionals with the largest field of view available.
